Joint pain? Surgery may be the answer

Living with advanced joint disease, Deborah Castelli was no stranger to joint surgery — she had already had a knee and hip replaced. So, when she and her husband planned to relocate from Long Island, N.Y., to Heritage Shores in Bridgeville, Del., she planned ahead.

Research pays off

“I knew when I moved here I had to find a good orthopedic doctor,” Castelli said. “I started looking even before we moved, and everything and everyone pointed me to Dr. William Doran. And then, when I moved here, I asked people and researched, and his name kept popping up.”

William Doran, DO, FAAOS of TidalHealth Orthopedics was who Castelli chose when she moved to Delaware and needed another hip replacement in the summer of 2022.

Getting back to normal

“I started walking the day after,” Castelli said. “I didn’t even need physical therapy afterward. I did some beforehand and built myself up and learned what I needed to do.”

Six weeks after her surgery, Castelli was cleared to resume all of her normal activities. Today, she’s walking a mile or more every day and hosting luncheons for a houseful of neighbors, all without any problems.

(Dr. William Doran) is very down to earth, I can’t say enough good about him and his office.

“Before the surgery, I was barely making it,” she said. “And I was so leery, leaving my other doctor. But I am so glad I found Dr. Doran. He and everyone in his office is so warm.”

She says she appreciates how he takes time with each patient and listens to their concerns. “He’s very down to earth,” she said. “I can’t say enough good about him and his office.”

Castelli says that with her medical history, she will likely need another joint replaced at some point. “I won’t go anywhere else,” she said.
