Six reasons to come to HealthFest on March 15

Bring the family out for a fun, healthy morning at TidalHealth’s annual health fair, HealthFest: Care for Generations. This free event is set for Saturday, March 15, at the Salisbury Fire Department Station 16 Headquarters at 325 Cypress St. in Salisbury.

People of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. The event runs from 9 am to noon.

“HealthFest is a way to create public awareness about health and what people can do to live a healthier lifestyle,” said Katherine Rodgers, MPH, director of community health initiatives for TidalHealth. “Many people may not get routine screenings and bloodwork. At this event, they are able to have various health screenings and talk to healthcare professionals. We also have community partners present to share their resources.”

Here are six reasons to attend.

Get health tests and screenings. This event offers a great opportunity to check your health, with numerous free health screenings offered. These include blood pressure testing, hearing tests, vision screenings, cholesterol screenings, diabetes risk assessments, with A1C blood draws for those at high risk, and more.

Chat with healthcare professionals. Have a health question? With nearly 50 exhibitors, medical professionals can answer your questions on topics including medications, injury prevention, primary care and more — or direct you to the best place for care.

Enjoy children’s activities. Bring the kids to enjoy fun activities. Kids can work with a nurse to give a teddy bear a health checkup — and then take the bear home. They can also play games, have their faces painted and take juggling lessons with Cascading Carlos.

Take part in demonstrations. Get active during HealthFest with 30-minute demonstrations. At 9 am, there will be a demonstration of the YMCA’s Enhance Fitness Class for seniors with arthritis. At 10 am, USA Dance Eastern Shore will host Dancing on the Shore: a mini ballroom dance-style lesson. At 11 am, attendees can take part in a tai chi demo with Park’s Martial Arts.

Learn how you can get involved in the community. Plenty of community-based vendors will be in attendance. Talk to representatives about the services their organizations offer and how you can get involved.
